The Art of Thinking Clearly by Rolf Dobelli - being aware of cognitive bias/errors

It is about getting better...

Repost from Philstar, Business Life Section by Bong Osorio- "Look in the Mirror..."

How do we think clearly?

Often times I quarrel with some people because:   1.  their answers are not responsive to the question, 2.  some answers are totally irrelevant   3 and at times could be impertinent or filosofo

Well of course, the key is to talk and think in terms of specific and concrete details:  God is in the details.  Be SMART:

Specific,

Measureable

Achievable

Realistic

Time based

To do otherwise would be to engage in generalities, wishful thinking and motherhood statements;  that is where our demagogues are good at:  "This nation will be great again",  "To pursue the American dream"  "Time for a change"  "Green revolution"  And we are mesmerized to find out that the slogans are empty and meaningless and cant be done.

Oliver Burke of Guardian thinks Dobelli is not thinking clearly.   There are cognitive biases, and Rolf, who originally wrote the book in German, shows this in his work like bias towards news, and celebrities.  Burke says it is the result of the bias towards entrepreneuralism

It is important that we are aware of our cognitive biases/errors. Hence, Osorio advice -  "Look at the man in the mirror (Remember the Michael Jackson song) and that tells much about this post.

Cognitive errors
