Going the extra mile in customer service - will your service provider and officers do it?

From Fast to Create by Co Create Staff

Will your staff and company go the extra mile to serve the customer?  During the Roman times, each citizen can be required by Roman soldiers to  carry the soldier's gear up to a mile.  Doing something beyond that is going the extra mile.  That is doing something over and beyond what the customer require;  it is delighting the customer (surprise and delight)

Thus the stories enumerated herein are just that:  surprising and delighting the customer:  l0,000 pizzas flown in by helicopter to Bethel,  Alaska;  heart shaped pizza delivered from Afghanistan with balloon and heart shaped;

Some suggestions in going the extra mile:

1.  View your customer as people, friends and relatives;  do things you will do for a friend (from the Book Customers for Life)

2.  Surprise and delight (from Starbucks MESEL guidelines to its employees) whether they ask for it or not.

3.  Know your stuff, own it and be proud of it;   deliver it to the best of your ability;  do not let others take this away from you. Own and defend that segment
