How to make new habits stick

Habits are good because they save your mind from processing routine tasks.  As it were, habits put many repetitive tasks on auto pilot.  Thus your mind is freed to focus on the more important task.  Great time saver.

However habits can put you into great disadvantage if they are all ready defunct and/or unresponsive to the demands of the new environment or challenges.

It is essential that when there is a new challenge or environment, the individual must accordingly change habits.  It is often said that the persons performance is often impacted by his attitude which shows up on his habits.

If we must change our outputs (performance) we must accordingly, change our habits. To expect new and higher outputs from same old habits is lunacy.  To expect a 200 kmh ride from an old car would be  out of this world.  And yet we do that often.

But changing habits is a challenge.  Stephen Covey in his very successful book, 7 Habits of Highly Successful People highlighted (he died all ready?) habits to be successful.

But to adopt them would be a challenge.
